Colorado River reaching crisis point with drought its worst in 1,200 years

As the consumption of water from the Colorado River continues to outpace its availability, the water body is nearing a crisis point. About 40 million people are dependent on the river’s water supply for such needs as drinking and growing food, but what is flowing through the Colorado isn’t enough to keep up. In only the past 20 years, the Colorado River’s plight has become more dire as it represents the southwestern United States’ driest period in about 1,200 years.
